Firefly Orbital Welding System

Applications

The Firefly orbital welding bug can be utilised in the following applications:

Oil, gas and water pipelines

The primary function of the firefly orbital welding bug is in welding these transport lines. It is used when repeatability is required. 10 inches diameter to flat.

Large diameter vessels

The firefly welding bug can be used in the construction of petroleum storage tanks or other large vessels used to store flammable or non-flammable liquids and gases or other substances requiring high-grade, repeatable welds.

Chemical

The firefly orbital welding bug can be used in the construction of chemical storage tanks or transport lines, e.g. drain tank for nuclear reactor coolant (this is a built-in safety feature in reprocessing plants in the west such as Sellafield), general refinery applications and AGIs. Can be used in areas of varying pipe sizes without setup times.

Steam pipes

The firefly orbital welding bug can be used in power station work, remedial or new build, boiler construction and other
site pressure vessels.

Tubular structures

The firefly orbital welding bug can be used for oil/gas rig/platform support legs. These require a very high grade of
repeatibility due to the cost implication with regard to human losses, oil/gas reserve losses and environmental impact if
legs fail. The Firefly can also be incorpoated into construction of a floating deck on the same rig.

Internal welds

Dependant on clearance on the inside of the vessel to be welded, some internal welding applications can be
achieved with the firefly orbital welding bug.

MOD applications

The firefly welding bug can be used in any applications where high levels of weld repeatability are required and
a band /track can be installed, e.g. submarines, missile tubes.
